FATALIST announces new line-up - March 25, 2010

Guitarist/vocalist Neil Burkdoll has reported that the new FATALIST lineup is ready to be revealed. Here is the official announcement:

"The new lineup of FATALIST for 2010 is secure for now. Joining Neil and Art in the band is Sean Jessel (Mentacide) on drums, Matt Drexler on lead guitars, and Mike Deity (Carnal Deity) on main vocals. This is the lineup that recorded the DEATH song "Beyond The Unholy Grave" for the upcoming movie soundtrack AFTER PARTY MASSACRE. Our version of the song is a bit different than the original, but we kept the original feel intact. You can check out an MP3 of the song at www.myspace.com/fatalist666. We also wanted to take the time to thank Marc from the band LIFELESS for doing some vocals on the song as well. We are planning a few different small tours for 2010 and we will post more news when we get anything confirmed. We are working on new material at the moment for the next release that will hopefully come out in early 2011."
FATALIST released the critically acclaimed The Depths of Inhumanity on Ibex Moon Records last year. Keep your ears peeled for more news on FATALIST killing sprees.

FATALIST Recording DEATH Cover For 'After Party Massacre' Soundtrack - March 2, 2010

Ventura, California death metallers FATALIST a recording a cover version of DEATH's "Beyond The Unholy Grave" for the soundtrack to "After Party Massacre". The band states, "We finished tacking the drums tonight and now it's on to the guitars and bass.

"We tried recording the song using the three different tempos that are on the original recording, but it sounded weird when we did it. So after that didn't work, we decided to go with just the tempo of the intro and it seemed to flow a little better. It might be different than how DEATH played it, but that's why this is a cover. We are using a slightly different way of recording the guitars this time around as well. We will be using the ENTOMBED method of using the HM-2 on the left and right channel, and a DS-1 in the center Channel. [We] used this setup on a demo of a new song and it turned out great."

FATALIST is seeking a new frontman following the recent departures of guitarist/vocalist Wes Caley (ex-EXHUMED, UPHILL BATTLE) drummer Tyler Castro.

Commented guitarist/vocalist Neil Burkdoll: "We need someone who can handle the vocals from the debut album, 'The Depths of Inhumanity', and be able to add a new spin to the formula as well. The singer needs to be able to practice at least once a week and be able to perform live as well. Transportation and a good attitude are required."
"Frozen Epitaph", the new video from FATALIST, can be viewed below. The track comes off the band's full-length debut, "The Depths of Inhumanity", which was released in the U.S. on November 23, 2009 via Ibex Moon Records.

Although the influences are obvious, the band injects its own personality into these 11 songs while staying true to the bruising-and-buzzing sounds of early-'90s Stockholm. Hear for yourself why James Hoare of Terrorizer praised FATALIST for playing "Swedish death metal like the masters" and shredding "the old way."

FATALIST release "Frozen Epitaph" video - January 19, 2010

Ventura, CA-based Stockholm-styled death metallers, FATALIST, have released a video for the sone "Frozen Epitaph" from their Ibex Moon Records debut, The Depths Of Inhumanity. Guitarist / vocalist Neil Burkdoll had the following to say about the video, which can be veiwed here.

"So here is our video for "Frozen Epitaph." The song is from our recently released album The Depths Of Inhumanity on Ibex Moon Records. This video was made to promote the European release of our album on January 19th, 2010. It was a lot of hard work and it was totally low budget, but we think it does the job. Shooting this video was the first time the 4 of us were even in the same room for at least 6 months and it was probably the last time as well. We want to thank Frank Boross and Rachel Burkdoll for all of the work they put into making this video a reality. Also a special thanks to John from Ibex Moon for funding the project. Now go and watch this fucking video!!!"

In other news, FATALIST recently parted ways with Wes Caley and Tyler Castro. FATALIST is now looking for a full time singer. Please contact the band at www.myspace.com/fatalist666 for more info. The Depths of Inhumanity is out now in America and in Europe on January 19th, 2010.

FATALIST guitarist featured in DECIBLOG - band prepares to unleash debut full-length - November 18, 2009

Poised to capture the crown of old-school death metal with their forthcoming debut full-length, The Depths Of Inhumanity, Ventura, California's answer to Stockholm-styled DM, Fatalist are flooring
fans and critics alike with their faithful and devastating take on the classic Swede-death style. Being the rabid fan and obvious expert on the genre that he is, guitarist / vocalist Nick Burkdoll recently
paired up with Decibel Magazine to discuss a handful of other new acts that are keeping the old-school alive and well. Check out Nick's Deciblog here

Champions of the old school Swedish death metal style (Stockholm, not Gothenburg), Ventura, California’s FATALIST pay tribute to the likes of Nihilist, Grave, Entombed, and Dismember on debut full-length /The Depths of Inhumanity/. The follow up to 2007’s impressive (and now sold out) /Loss/ demo will be released on November 23, 2009 on Ibex Moon Records. While the influences are obvious, the band injects its own personality into these 11 songs, while staying true to the bruising ‘n buzzing sounds of early 90s Stockholm. Guitarist/vocalist
Neil Burkdoll (Dirty Dead, Stump) Burkdoll had this to say about the
recording:

“Well, three years in the making; it has been a long ass time. Our album /The Depths of Inhumanity/ is finally going to see the light of day on Nov 23, 2009. It is 11 songs of old school death metal that we hope you guys enjoy. We really tried to make each song stand alone from the others and have their own identity. We are happy as hell that the album is coming out on Ibex Moon as well. We really felt that we would fit nicely on the Ibex Moon roster and it was a great day when John agreed to talk to us about an album deal. Things went
really smooth with the label and we hope to work with them again in the future.”

Burkdoll, along with veteran guitarist/vocalist Wes Caley (ex-Exhumed, ex-Uphill Battle), bassist Art Hayes, and drummer Tyler Castro bring the rumble with great songwriting, fierce attitude, and menacing feeling; just the way it was meant to be played. Hear for yourself why James Hoare of Terrorizer praised FATALIST for playing “Swedish death metal like the masters” and shredding “the old way.”

FATALIST´S Neil Burkdoll interviewed in Terrorizer Magazine - April 15, 2009

*Fatalist’s Neil Burkdoll interviewed in Terrorizer Magazine
*
Vocalist/guitarist Neil Burkdoll of Ventura, California’s Fatalist - the unabashed champions of the old school Swedish death metal style – was interviewed by James Hoare as part of a story called /Left Hand Pathfinders/, an exploration of the era that inspired the Daniel Ekeroth book /Swedish Death Metal/. The story in included in Issue #182 (Mastodon on the cover), so be sure to pick up a copy!

In the piece Hoare notes that, “Fatalist formed in 2006 out of a tellingly-monikered covers band Stockholm Syndrome and play Swedish death metal like the masters. They’re from California mind you, and feature Wes Caley from San Jose death/grind sickos Exhumed on guitar and vox, but dammnit, they shred the old way.”

Burkdoll then goes on to discuss the massive influence that the early Swedish scene had on him personally, as well the inventiveness of the sound, the punk-inspiration, and the manner in which the songwriting contrasted to that of the American death metal bands. During the discussion Burkdoll recalls his first memories of the Swedish scene.

“I had bought ‘Left Hand Path’ as soon as it was released in the States through Combat Records in 1990. That was my first taste of the Swedish scene. I had read about Entombed about a month before and they seemed to be something ‘new’ at the time. Within a few months I had the first Entombed, Grave and Unleashed albums. Soon followed by the first Carnage, Dismember and Therion albums. I guess you can say that there was a very spooky feeling to the Swedish bands, it definitely made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.”

It is exactly that feeling that Fatalist has captured on /The Depths of Inhumanity/, the band’s upcoming release on Ibex Moon Records. More news to come!

FATALIST signs to Ibex Moon Records - February 5, 2008

Ibex Moon Records are proud to announce the signing of FATALIST from
Ventura, CA. FATALIST features members Wes Caley (ex-Exhumed, ex-Uphill
Battle), Neil Burkdoll (ex-Stump, Dirty Dead), Tyler Castro and Art
Hayes. They formed in the spring of 2006 and write music reminiscent of
Entombed, Nihilist, Grave, Dismember and Unleashed. FATALIST's demo CD
entitled "Loss" was self-released in November of 2007.
Check out their myspace page http://www.myspace.com/fatalist666

John McEntee, Owner of Ibex Moon Records:
"I was blown away when I first heard this band. They have such a sincere
heavy, catchy and aggressive death metal vibe. It reminded me of the
first time I heard some of the classic Scandinavian death metal bands of
the late 80's early 90's. I feel that FATALIST is an extremely promising
band and will be a staple of the worldwide death metal scene. I'm proud
to have them as a part of the Ibex Moon roster."

Neil Burkdoll states, "We are really excited and happy to be working
with Ibex Moon. With bands like Nominon, Funerus, and Incantation, how
can you go wrong? John has been very supportive of us and we look
forward to releasing a great album in 2008."

upcoming shows: Feb 23 2008 Relax Bar Los Angeles, California w/ BLOODCUM

The band was originally thought of as an all swedish death metal cover band called Stockholm Syndrome. After it was known that some of the members were not going to actually commit to doing it, the band was put on hold for a while.

In the spring of 2006, Wes Caley (Uphill Battle, Exhumed) decided that he would like to make a version of the band that did original songs instead of cover songs but in the same style as Entombed, Nihilist, Grave, Dismember, and Unleashed. He contacted Neil Burkdoll (Dirty Dead, Stump) after hearing his POOR project that he did that was similar to what Wes had in mind for his Swedish style band.

Just as Wes made contact with Neil, he found out that Neil was actually moving out to California in the near future. They decided it was time to get together create FATALIST. Eventually Fatalist enlisted Tyler Castro and Art Hayes to complete the line-up on drums and bass.

In late summer of 2007, the band recorded a 7 song demo cd called "Loss" and started looking for shows to play in California.

In Feb 2008, Fatalist signed to Ibex Moon Records!!!
